Each month we do a S.W.A.P. (Stations With A Purpose). Each class gets to "swap" to every classroom to do a themed activity. This month was Mad Scientist! Usually the teachers stay in the rooms while the students rotate & that teacher has the same lesson with all 4 classes with as needed accommodations/modifications. This month we had an Elementary major class come take the place of the teachers and we teachers got to move around with our students. It was great. Every semester we have the majors come do one SWAP and I really think this was the best group of Ele. Ed. majors.
In this station, we found out the explosion that happens when you mix Mad Scientist's chemicals together. (Baking Soda & Vinegar)
First we listened to I Need My Monster...
Then we did a test run...
We were able to draw monsters on our balloons before we made our chemical reactions.
Here we gooo....
Next station we discussed reactions also, but through a different concept. The kids each got a mystery ball coated with baking soda. They dropped it in water, but nothing happened. We added dye to the water...still nothing. So then we got to drop in some special mystery liquid (vinegar) and after a major explosion, we found out there was a spooky eyeball!!
while some kids waited their turn, they got to watch a short video
This Station taught us why bones are important. It helps not be a floppy mess!
And then my phone died...
I got enough of a charge to take a few pictures of the last station...
In this station we were some good, spooky scientist that mixed certain amounts of ingredients to make some gooey goo.
