Dental Health

For Dental Health we discussed how many teeth children & adults have. We discussed the parts of a tooth and how to keep our teeth healthy. We also got to view xrays and did an experiment of what different types of drinks do to our teeth.

We first opened up with the story The Tooth Book by Dr. Seuss

Then we discussed a little information and made our own tooth diagram...

We were able to look at a few xrays and tooth model that Dr. Hoggle had for us...

We also played a game about what we eat and drink. I would ask the group if they eat certain sugary foods or drinks, whether they brush twice a day, or if they floss. For everything that was bad for a tooth, they had to draw a black dot on their "Tooth"...for the teeth we used egg crates. After we finished with our questions, they had to become the dentist. They used their pencils to "drill" out the cavities made from their dental mistakes. Finally, they had to put a filling into their teeth. We used regular tin foil for that!

We finished our day by checking on our eggs that we had placed in cups with different drinks. We left our eggs in the drinks for 24 hours. We noticed that water did nothing to our teeth, but we were amazed about how brown our egg was from the coke!

After we finished our day, we were able to go home with our tooth brushes that Dr. Hoggle gave us and a cool coloring book!
