Different Types of Clouds

We discussed 3 types of clouds. Cirrus, Cumulus, & Stratus. We discovered that cirrus clouds are thin and wispy, cumulus clouds are puffy, and stratus clouds are flat like a blanket and can have a grey tint. Stratus clouds are what gives us all the rain we have been experiencing! After we had our discussion, we made some clouds of our own using cotton balls.
We also made a rain gauge from a plastic water bottle and we have been checking to to see how many inches of rain we have gotten. We first had to fill the bottle up with about an inch of water to begin our base line. (Since the bottom of the bottle wasn't flat.) Then we began our markings for measuring each inch of rain we will get.

This was on Wednesday. We had already gotten an inch of rain. Today (Friday) we are up to 3 inches.

Here are some older pictures that I forgot to post. When we were studying paleontologist, we discovered that they have special tools to remove fossils. We pretended to be paleontologist & we were carefully removing fossils. We used a toothpick as our tool, chocolate chips as the fossils and the cookie was the ground.
