Dr. Howard & Dr. Minear Host SWAP

This S.W.A.P. = Stations with Awesome Parents. The parents were invited to view Dr. Howard & Dr. Minear's students show their teaching abilities through small stations and to get an idea of what the teachers of UWACS will be doing in the coming weeks. This year during our yearly curriculum meeting, the Campus School decided we would teach "Christmas Around the World" for the month of December. However, during the Alabama Early Childhood Conference this October, our director heard about a great way of how to discuss even broader on the  topic "around the world." She shared this information with all of us in one of our meetings. We will be elaborating on those ideas come December! It is going to be GREAT!!!

But to help get us started, Dr. Minear relayed the idea to her college class. Each of her students were given a place in the world and discussed the difference in a holiday celebration there compared to ours. So, here is their take on Celebrations Around The World.

Kwanzaa
Budda
Japanese New Year
China Winter Solace
Sweden - Their Christmas consist of the boys dressing in cone hats & the girls dressing in pretty dresses and a hat with candles on top!

Las Posadas - we got to eat some tamales & drink hot chocolate! What a strange combination to us. They even put chili powder in their hot chocolate! The kids liked it though!

Boxing Day

Chinese New Year - The kids enjoyed the painting at this station.

Ramadan - I can NOT believe the muslims fast from 8:08 am to 7:07!! And when they do eat, they love to eat sweets!

 Ethiopian Orthodox

Hanaukka -- the kids got packets to make the craft at home. So parents, you can find these in their MAILBOXES.

We didn't get a chance to visit this place. But I liked the decorations & stopped by to take some pictures.
