Dr. Morse's Class - Animal Lessons

Today Dr. Morse's class did an animal lesson with us. We learned facts about all kinds of animals. Check out below for what we learned!

CAT
cats make 100 different sounds
cats can jump up to 5x its on height  
cats can travel 31 mph
there are over 500 million domestic cats
 cats sleep 15 hours 


PIGS
eat plants and meats
their noses are very sensitive
there are 2 billion pigs in the world
some people have pigs as pets
pigs have small lungs in reference to there size
male pigs are called bores
female are called swine
or both call hogs
they have really bad eyesight but can smell excellent



MICE
normally can eat plants, but they can eat diary and meats
they can live your house or outside
mice eat 15-20x a day
a female can give birth 12 babies
only takes 3 weeks for pregnancy

mice sleep over 12 hours a day
mice are actually very organize and clean
mice are colorblind
their bodies measure 6-8 inches and  they jump 18  inches
usually their tails are as longs as their bodies. 
they have excellent hearing
mice are scared of rats

BIRDS
birds have feathers and lay lots of eggs
there are over 10 thousands types of birds
the biggest bird is called the ostrich
birds have special bones and is why they can fly so well
smallest bird is a bee hummingbird
red birds - males are really mean
females sing pretty songs to tell its time to eat.


ZEBRAS
each stripe is different from all the other stripes. they are like our fingerprints
they can run up to 65 mph
they only sleep when they have other zebras
zebras eat grass, twigs, and bark
their strips are their camouflage 


BEES
Have 6 legs
250 types of bees in the whole world
live together with as a family
nest are ruled by queen bees
bees feed on flower nectar and pollen


GIRAFFE
tallest animal in the whole world
legs are taller than our mommies and daddies
necks are so long they can reach leaves on trees
have to spread legs to be able to drink water
do not have to drink water everyday because their water comes from plants
they have 4 stomachs
no giraffe has the same spot twice
they are native to Africa

LION

when a lion roars, it can be heard 5 miles away
they are the 2nd largest cat in the world
males lions have a mane
the color of the mane tells how old the lion is... they darker the older
lions can live up to 12 years
females are the ones that hunt and feed the pride
in one day, lions rest for 20 hours
